IN soccer, confidence and determination can take a player many places, and Dandenong North's Milos Ridesic hopes it will take him to a major European league.
The 15-year-old Brighton Grammar student has won a place at the try-out camp for the Australian under-age side later this year after a stellar performance at the National Training Centre Institute Challenge in Canberra late last year.
The challenge brought together each state's NTC squad. Ridesic's performance at centre back for Victoria led to him scoring both a place in the 22-man team of the tournament side and a chance to try out for the Joeys, the Australian under-17 team, The date and location of the camp is yet to be announced.
Ridesic said he was proud to get his shot to play for the Joeys and follow up on his appearances for Australia at under-13 level. He said making this Australian team would lead to an appearance at the Asian Cup in Iran late this year.
Ridesic is confident he will perform well at the camp, although making the team would require his best performance.
"After playing in the NTC challenge I feel like it will be a little easier to make the Australian team because I've played against all the other players in the squad, so I will know the players and the benchmark for the team," he said.
Ridesic was one of five Victorian players selected.
