Helping out at Eumemmerring Primary

24 Oct, 2011 12:00 AM
THE closure of Eumemmerring Primary School will be the end of an era for the Colthurst family.

Since the school opened 35 years ago, there have only been about two years where Glenda Colthurst has had no children or grandchildren attending the school.

Her daughter Corrina, a past pupil who now has two daughters attending the school, also helps her in the canteen regularly.

"I've been here since the school opened and I'll be here until it closes," Glenda said. "It's so friendly, the teachers are always helpful. You feel part of it."

When Doveton College opens at the beginning of next year and Eumemmerring Primary School pupils transfer there, Glenda said she would stay involved.

But after 35 years, she might finally wind her involvement back. "I might slow down a bit."

Corrina said it would be sad to see Eumemmerring Primary School close, but the new college was "coming along nicely" and her daughers, Tahlia and Makayla, were excited about the change.

OMG, I went to Eumemmerring the very first year it opened. I had the best time of my life there. I still remember playing timetables games with my teacher and a boy named Tony and I going neck to neck. I can't believe it's about to close. I still know every single timestable to this day, unlike my own three children who were brought up in Perth and used a calculator.

RIP Eumemmerring Primary.
