Drug stash found in Dandenong North

23 Jan, 2012 01:00 AM
POLICE descended on a Dandenong North house after a fire led emergency services to discover a sophisticated hydroponic set-up.

Police and CFA firefighters were called to a double-storey house in Bellbrook Drive about 9pm last Sunday week and found up to 10 rooms filled with cannabis plants.

Detective Leading Senior Constable Matt Hunt of Dandenong CIU said police were stunned by the elaborate set-up, describing it as "more of a warehouse" than a home..

A neighbour told the Weekly that the house had been sold twice in the last year.

"I've never seen anybody in that house," she said.

Leading Senior Constable Hunt said it was too early to determine whether the fire could be linked to the hydroponic set-up.

The CFA had deemed the fire as not suspicious.

Anyone with any information about the property can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
