A 24-year-old driver was killed after a Ford utility travelling south-east struck a tree on the median-strip between Princes Highway and Pound Road at 7am. The male driver died at the scene.

Paramedics treated his 22-year-old male passenger who was then taken to Dandenong Hospital with minor injuries.

A police spokesman said police would prepare a report for the state coroner.
