FRIENDSHIPS made through the now defunct Keysborough Primary School will be renewed at a community reunion later this month.
A time capsule will be opened and historical items will be on display to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the school on Sunday, November 27.
The celebration has been organised by a group of parents who had children at Keysborough Primary School before it was closed in 1993.
Rob Aldenhoven, who had two children at the school, said a time capsule was relocated to the church next door when the school closed.
"When the capsule was relocated, it stayed in the memory of people. A group of parents knew it had to be opened this year some time," he said. He expects the capsule will contain crafts made by the students and letters from them and their families.
But the 150th Keysborough reunion isn't just about opening the time capsule.
"The whole purpose of it is to have it has a reunion, to have the community get-together," Mr Aldenhoven said. It will be like a school reunion, but from a more family perspective.
"The Keysborough school community was a very close knit community at the time and it was a shame to see the school closed."
Ray Johnstone will present the history of Keysborough through a photo display and DVD playing throughout the day.
"We heard Ray was doing Keysborough's history and we thought there could be a mutual working relationship," Mr Aldenhoven said.
"It's not just the time capsule - that's one aspect. The Keysborough history gives us the other side of it."
The 150th celebrations will be held at the Keysborough Senior Citizens Hall on Cheltenham Road from 1pm-5pm. The time capsule will be opened at 2pm and Greater Dandenong mayor Roz Blades will be in attendance.
